‘Ga Si Ri’, is a performance for those who have been unfairly and unjustly killed due to discrimination and inequality in society. This performance is created to relieve the resentment of the dead and soothe the soul based on the act of 'Go Pul Yee' an act for the dead in Korean shamanism faith.
We have been living in a history of discrimination, where people are sacrificed because of their race, gender, age, or religion. And the prejudice continues today. Our team feels infuriated by the unjustified distinction, and this became the beginning of our project. Through Ga Si Ri, we would like to bring attention to inequality incorporating the concept of Korean Shamanism faith. We wish to use CalArts, a great community that recognizes and respects diversity, as a stepping stone for our project.
This project is made possible by the support of the School of Theater, Student Union, the Office of Diversity, CalArts.
